During my time at the Howard Art Project, an art studio and exhibition space that I co-founded and co-directed with colleagues from 2011-2015, I took an interest in mapping its surrounding neighborhood of Fields Corner, Dorchester in unconventional ways.
In this collaborative mapping project, food, which has a significant cultural presence in the area, is the entry point for investigating Fields Corner. I invited five people, each with their own relationship to the neighborhood, to individually select from and performatively respond to a local menu. The result is a series of performative gestures that function as a map of sorts—one that mines the rich cultural makeup of Fields Corner through its gustatory offerings.
